"The use of not clear speech embitters the listener."
-Vladimir Lenin translated by babelfish
Jenny Campbell and Yelena Zhelezov have adapted Kornei Chukovski's russian nonsense poem about naptime
disrupting telephone calls that explores complex communication in a post-industrial setting.
The two translated Chukovski's story by machine and dressed Vladmir Lenin within it, presenting a scenario in which a menagerie of frustrating animals simply won't let their dear leader sleep.
This is Zhelezov and Campbell’s fourth new work with Bobbindoctrin
and second children's oriented piece following The Travels of the Dung Beetle,
which they performed in a tree house for the children of the Pink Ribbon Benefit
2003. Their other recent Bobbindoctrin performances include The Edge of Space! Living
Room and The Perils of Ambition in 2003, and Why Do the Children Rust? in
2004. Campbell and Zhelezov also teach workshops on puppetry at area schools.
