The Long Christmas Ride Home

By Paula Vogel
Directed by Randy Symank and Joel Orr

Bobbindoctrin Puppet Theatre and Unhinged Productions teamed up to produce the regional premiere of The Long Christmas Ride Home by Pulitzer Prize-winner Paula Vogel. The Long Christmas Ride Home is a fusion of traditional theatre and Bunraku puppet theatre techniques. Actors and puppets blend seamlessly in this story that weaves the past, present and future on a snowy Christmas Eve for a troubled family of five...

Humorous and heart-wrenching, this beautifully written play, by the author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning How I Learned to Drive, proves that magic can be found in the simplest breaths of life.

Unhinged Artistic Director Randy Symank directed the production, and Bobbindoctrin's Artistic Director Joel Orr provided the puppet direction. The production featured Bunraku-style tabletop puppets and new shadow puppet techniques by Bobbindoctrin company members.

The Long Christmas Ride Home premiered in 2003 in a co-production between Long Wharf Theatre and Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island, and is described by Vogel as "an adult puppet play, certainly not Avenue Q."
